Um… that would be speculation, pure and simple, and it would be WRONG.

With regard to differences between men and women, I rather suspect that this is part of the great nature/nurture pendulum that we’ve experienced through several generations. One generation has a loose paradigm that observed differences between genders are mostly due to biological differences between sexes. The next receives this as if it were dogma, and amasses evidence to the contrary, intending to provide balance but inadvertently establishing a counterparadigm that gender differences are mostly cultural. A subsequent generation in turn receives this as dogma, and amasses evidence for biological differences, and so on.

Currently, we’ve had a good long run of sociobiological explanations for gender differences, and I’d expect to see cultural explanations regaining influence.

In practice, of course, it’s a false dichotomy. Biology and culture both shape us in complex ways, and neither alone will ever be sufficient to explain our behaviour.
